About Genesee Valley Gender Variants

Genesee Valley Gender Variants is a social meetup group dedicated to nurturing the gender variant and trans* community in the Rochester, NY area. We hold weekly meetings every Thursday evening from 7-9pm at:

Equal=Grounds
750 South Avenue
Rochester, NY 14620

GV^2 was created because there is a need for acceptance and community among folks who fall on the trans* spectrum and allies. So many of us experience a disconnect with our families and friends. We face challenges finding jobs and finding homes. With more of us finding our voices every day, we need somewhere to go where no one will judge us for our gender presentation or our preferred pronouns.

Who is welcome at GV^2?

We champion the right of each and every individual to self-identify. You do not need to be on hormones, undergo surgery, or subscribe to the gender binary to belong here. We welcome folks who fall outside the confines of cisgender male and female, regardless of labels or presentation. We welcome allies of all stripes, so long as our trans* friends are allowed their voices. We welcome open-minded folks willing to accept folks as they are.

We uphold the philosophy of Trans*Enough. To quote the Trans*Enough Blog, "Trans*Enough means that you are enough, as you are, right now. It means that however you identify is right for you, and that you don’t need surgeries or hormones or outside approval to make it so."

We are all people here.
